Modern Icon Tracking Harness

Designed to meet the strictest requirements for a K9 tracking harness, they started by using mil-spec 1 ¾” webbing, most commonly used in parachute harnesses, which is quick drying, mould and mildew resistant and strength rated to 7,000 lbs. Using our Patrol Harness as the design foundation, we added a strap and ISC Klick-Lock buckle in the rear to add support for the K9 so that they can be safely lifted over obstacles, as well as preventing them from being able to back out of their harness. A V-Ring on the rear of the harness as well as the shoulder blade apex gives the handler multiple clip-in options, and also allows the handler to clip the harness into their chest rig if a dog needs to be carried by the handler.

The V-Rings are strength rated to 6,000 lbs and can be clipped with any commercially available attachment option including large diameter climbing carabiners. The 1 3/4″ ISC Wales Klick-Lock buckle provides a secure and redundant attachment point that can be quickly detached but has recessed buttons that prevent accidental unclipping when grabbed at the buckle by the handler or a suspect. The use of Velcro covered Molle on the left and right sides of the harness allows the handler to attach accessories, pouches or affix department or unit identifiers.

There are many roads to Rome. My approach to building the "Out" starts long before my dog ever sees a sleeve.

I build it in tug. Two toys, short reps. Out is called, dead toy becomes live toy instantly. The payoff for releasing fast, is getting back in the game fast. The dog works that out quickly.

As the habit forms I raise the criteria. Pause between out and re-engage. Toy value varied. Eventually the game runs with everything she owns on the ground around us. The only toy that matters is the one I'm offering.

By the time the sleeve appears, the release is second nature. I'm not building anything new. I'm asking her to apply something she already knows somewhere the stakes are higher.

And because I haven't built it with correction, she never reaches the point where she thinks: I want this so badly I'll just take the hit.

That's the foundation I want before I even think of asking for it on the protection field.

There's no bad weather. Only inadequate kit.

Torrential tonight. Left the house without a second thought. This system doesn't fail.

Nonstop Fjord 2.0 dog coat
Genuine 3L construction. Rivals mountain hardshells I've paid twice the price for. Sig moves freely and stays dry.

Pinewood Dogsports 2.0 Jacket
Massively underrated. Rear pocket fits a wedge, a 10m longline and more toys than I'd care to admit. Outperforms brands charging three times the price.

Keela Waterproof Trousers
Spend time around mountain rescue and you already know Keela. I'd take these over Arcteryx. Every time!

Altberg Field and Fell Boots
Worked through a lot of boots. Altberg is where I stopped looking.

Sealskinz Peaked Cap
Five years old. Still going. Rain or sun, peaked cap is always the right choice!

Snakeshead exists to find kit that won't let handlers down. I'll tell you what works. I don't care if I stock it.

Two weeks ago we became three. Last night Alfred met the crew.

He's got about 18 years before he's operational. Plenty of time to nail dutch rolls, ladders and BAECO.

Standards don't start when you're old enough to understand them. They start when you're old enough to watch!

The question is... do we trust the indication enough to push it further and blindfold for the throw?! No keys, no way home!

Tired dog after 1000m of tracking always makes it a risk! 😬😅

Sunday afternoon chill waiting for baby to drop with Sig, 100% on in the field, 95% off in the house, always the goal. With the Mals it often needs training deliberately!

In my mind, its no good having a spicy dog for extra home security, if its in a kennel when its needed! I also havent the patience for spending my home time with a always on nutcase! 😅

Dog and Bone

Lucky enough to catch x3 of the Rockwell B1 "Bones" returning to RAF Fairford on our evening dog walk yesterday. How many times do you get to proof your stay command under a supersonic bomber capable of carrying 34tn! Flew right over us and those turbofan engines really make the ground shake!

My background is in the Defence industry, and as an Engineer, high performance design, quality control and a zero fail mentality is exactly why I set up Snakeshead K9! Some missions are too important to rely on kit thats "Good Enough"!
